Ken
Congenital Femoral Deficiency Tennessee Dr. McClure
Dr. Herzenberg
Ken’s parents brought him to the International Center for Limb Lengthening (ICLL) when he was two years old. He had a congenital femoral deficiency (CFD) in his left leg that created a sizeable limb length discrepancy. Over the course of his childhood, he had several lengthening treatments with Dr. Herzenberg.
Most recently, he came back as an adult in his mid-20s to improve his range of motion in his left knee. Dr. McClure performed a quadricepsplasty procedure to lengthen the quadriceps muscles and tendons around the knee; the surgery combined with Ken’s hard work in intensive physical therapy at Sinai, has significantly improved his range of motion.
Today, Ken is enjoying being a musician and attending flight school with a goal of becoming a pilot and flight instructor. In the video above, Ken reflects upon his “specialized” and “elite care” he received at the ICLL over the course of his lifetime. He also explains why he feels the ICLL is the best place that parents could choose to treat their child living with CFD. “This place has a very family feel to it…. You can go to a lot of places to get your legs fixed, but to get it fixed at a place where they know you and care about you as a person, and not just a patient, is special.”
