Ventilator and Respiratory Care
Levindale's ventilator services provide state-of-the-art care for people who need mechanical assistance to breathe. Most patients have spinal injuries, a catastrophic illness, neurological challenges or post-surgical complications. Using aggressive weaning techniques, patients are taught to breathe on their own, whenever possible.
Comprehensive Rehabilitation
Levindale's Comprehensive Rehabilitation Program is committed to providing the services needed to overcome the disabling effects of accidents or illnesses.
Occupational therapy enhances independence and the activities of daily living.
Physical therapy works to restore the strength, mobility, balance and endurance of patients experiencing disabilities or changes in physical function.
Speech-language therapy helps patients with communication, eating and swallowing.
Recreational therapy encourages patients to enjoy leisure interests and skills.
Wound Care
Levindale's wound treatment team includes wound specialists, physicians and RNs. This team approach involves patients, caregivers, therapists and health care providers. Examples of wounds typically treated include:
Decubitus ulcers
Surgical and post operative wounds
Cancerous lesions
Mental Health Illnesses
The geropsychiatric staff treats the mental health illnesses and behavioral challenges of older adults. In addition, Levindale's Partial Hospitalization Program and Intensive Outpatient Program are open to those who want to avoid a hospital stay or who are returning to the community after a hospital stay.
Eden Alternative and Neighborhood Model
Levindale began a culture change in 2000 as a more patient-focused center. That's when we became the first registered Eden Alternative facility. The Eden philosophy concentrates on the quality of life of patients. It focuses on companionship, empowerment and variety. Levindale patients thrive in an environment with pets, visits from children and gardening.
In keeping with the Eden Alternative and culture change, we are continuing our quest to exceed the desires of our patients with our Neighborhood Model. Our units have become neighborhoods, where all patients, families and employees participate in decision-making, daily activities and problem solving.
Education
Education for patients and families is a top priority. When patients are ready to leave Levindale, families learn how to administer medicine and suction, how to carry out exercise programs and information about needed equipment. Levindale also operates support groups.
Levindale Accreditation and Licenses
Joint Commission certification.
The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) certification.
Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene certification for Medicare and Medicaid programs.
