Pediatric Orthopedics Team at the International Center for Limb Lengthening

The International Center for Limb Lengthening is world-renowned for its Pediatric Orthopedics practice. Every day, we help children who are struggling with the most severe and rare orthopedic conditions. Children with conditions that other orthopedic surgeons see once in their entire career are seen weekly in our clinic.

The center is internationally recognized for its innovative treatments for clubfoot, congenital femoral deficiency, fibular hemimelia, Perthes disease and deformities associated with achondroplasia. We use cutting-edge technology and the latest proven techniques to treat our patients’ complex orthopedic conditions.

Orthopedic surgeons from all around the world come to learn from our team of expert fellowship-trained surgeons who have treated children from around the globe. In addition to our physicians, we have three physician assistants focused on pediatric care, a pediatric liaison to support children and their families, and a nurse who specializes in patient education. Our doctors offer free weekly online chats so that potential and existing patients and their families can ask questions about their condition and treatment options. We also host a Facebook group for patients & parents of pediatric patients to share ideas and ask questions of other families going through treatment.

The International Center for Limb Lengthening team takes pride in our compassionate patient-focused care. Our doctors spend time with patients and their families to listen to their questions and concerns and clearly explain all their options before determining a customized treatment plan. The Herman & Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital on Sinai’s campus has pediatric specialists in a variety of disciplines who support our care. Pediatricians are on site 24 hours a day for our children who are hospitalized. The Children’s Hospital also has a pediatric intensive care unit that is rarely utilized by International Center for Limb Lengthening patients, but offers families greater peace of mind.

The International Center for Limb Lengthening at Sinai Hospital is the first facility on the East Coast—and one of only six centers in the United States—to offer the groundbreaking, ultra low-dose radiation EOSedge X-ray technology. The EOSedge is an advanced standing X-ray machine that provides clearer, high-resolution images with just 14% of the radiation of traditional X-ray machines. A micro-dose setting allows follow-up images at just 1.4% of the radiation produced by standard X-ray equipment. This is especially important for children with limb deformities or limb length discrepancies who have many multiples of X-rays in a short period of time and frequent imaging throughout the course of their lives. This significantly reduces their radiation exposure which in larger doses may have potentially negative cumulative effects over a  lifetime.

We also have an affordable, comfortable and convenient housing option for patients and their families to stay at the Hackerman-Patz House right on our Sinai Hospital campus during treatment. Some patients and their families stay at the downtown Baltimore Ronald McDonald House which offers transportation to Sinai Hospital.
