Cynthia Smith, Ph.D.

Cynthia Smith, Ph.D., is the founding program director of the Division of Neuropsychology. She earned her doctoral degree from the California School of Professional Psychology and completed an internship at the Palo Alto VA Medical Center and a postdoctoral fellowship in neuropsychology at Dartmouth Medical School. She conducts neuropsychological assessments across the lifespan, from infancy to geriatrics, and has specialized training in pediatric and adult epilepsy.

Before joining the faculty at the Brain & Spine Institute, Dr. Smith practiced on staffs at both private and nonprofit institutions, including the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, and the Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She holds a faculty appointment (instructor of psychiatry) at Johns Hopkins University and has published research in the areas of hydrocephalus and epilepsy. Dr. Smith is a member of the National Academy of Neuropsychology, the International Neuropsychological Society, and the International Society of Hydrocephalus and Cerebrospinal Fluid Disorders, and she has served on the Chesapeake Epilepsy Foundation Professional Advisory Board since 2002.
