Inpatient rehabilitation at the Specialty Hospital at Levindale is accredited by The Joint Commission and the Commission of Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
Certified professionals provide three hours of therapy Monday through Friday and services are available on weekends as well. Care is coordinated by an interdisciplinary team with specialties that include physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, therapeutic recreation therapy, respiratory therapy, social work, nutrition and medicine.
There is also 24 hour nursing care. A physiatrist (a doctor who specializes in rehabilitation) provides direction and works closely with team members to help patients achieve their goals.
Medically Complex/Ventilator Service
Staff members at the Specialty Hospital at Levindale provide one to three hours of rehabilitation services to ventilator-dependent patients and/or patients with medically complex conditions who may not be strong enough to begin an inpatient program. Treatment is offered Monday through Friday in conjunction with nursing care, medical interventions and respiratory services.
Inpatient rehabilitation in sub-acute neighborhoods (units) offer one to three hours of therapy Monday through Friday and services are also available on weekends. This is a perfect fit for people who can’t tolerate the intensity of more intense rehabilitation, but who have the ability to participate in fewer treatments a day. A medical doctor provides daily oversight and works closely with the rehab team to meet every patient’s needs.
Long Term Care
Rehabilitation services are available to our residents in their own neighborhoods (units). Our goal is to maintain their maximum level of function and the highest quality of life through skilled interventions.
Rehabilitation services are available to patients on the behavioral health units in the Specialty Hospital at Levindale. Physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech and language therapy services are available to help patients maintain and/or achieve the best physical, mental, and psychosocial skills possible. Treatments are provided one on one and in group settings.
Psychiatric Day Treatment Program
Occupational therapy services are available to participants attending this program. Group treatments focus on daily living and life skills to assist people in transitioning back into the community.
Mental Health Outpatient Service
The Specialty Hospital at Levindale staff provides participants with outpatient physical, occupation and speech/language therapies. These services are provided in our therapy gym or at one of our Adult Day Services centers.
Comprehensive Wound Care
Levindale’s physical therapists are certified or trained to provide comprehensive wound care, including wound vacs, pulse lavage and sharp debriedment. These procedures can be provided both at the inpatient and outpatient levels.
The rehabilitation team at the Specialty Hospital at Levindale has been specially trained to work with patients who have a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD). An LVAD is a mechanical heart, which is surgically attached to a patient’s own weak heart. Therapists provide one to three hours of therapy Monday through Friday and services are available on weekends.
Our goal is to mobilize the patient as soon as possible to avoid unnecessary medical complications. Levindale’s team works in close collaboration with the implantation center to ensure safe and optimal care.
Coma Emergence Program
Levindale offers a comprehensive and specialized program to help patients emerge from a comatose state. We employ the nationally recognized JFK Coma Recovery Scale and Ranchos Los Amigo Scale, for the purpose of assessing and treating them. Levindale therapists are Academy of Certified Brain Injury Specialists (ACBIS) certified and are highly skilled at multi-sensory stimulation. At Levindale, family members are essential team members in their loved ones recovery.
